On each day of the forty days of Lent (from Ash Wednesday until Holy Saturday, excluding Sundays) a recording of a piece of choral music supplied by the Archive of Recorded Church Music from nearly 100 years of historic recordings will become available to listen to. The clips can be accessed by following the day’s link below when it goes live. The challenge is quite simple: identify the choir which is singing in the recording, and the year in which the recording was made, from a list of all the answers.

Each day’s answer can be submitted from the day on which it is published until Easter Day, and multiple submissions can be made, although only the last one will be scored. A correct answer will earn a point. The player with the highest score (out of a possible 40) on Easter Day will be the overall winner; if there is a tie, the overall winner will be selected at random. First, second and third places will receive gift certficates to use in the Archive’s online shop.

Congratulations to our winners! First place - with a perfect score of 40/40 - goes to Gilly French! Second place - with 38/40 - goes to Matthew Collins - and third place is shared between Judy Martin and "Ace Airstream" with 36/40 each. Highly commended also goes to Kathe Wright Kaufman and Patsy Howes who also scored over 30.

If you enjoyed listening to the historic recordings, you might be interested to know that the Archive has just 350 vinyl records remaining to be digisited out of a total collection of some 11,000 items (and counting).
